I had a bus driver on an empty last bust home leave me outside a Bookies for 15 minutes at about half 11, and this was 2010ish lol I was the Turnpikes Troubadoursgold shirt it is in the first place but only sober person on the night bus on the regular for years and there’s a few people that live rent free in my head to this day. The girl who threw up into her handbag, the guys who just got their crack pipe out and lit it in the wheelchair space downstairs, and the Walthamstow Drunk Man. Walthamstow Drunk Man was already sleeping the sleep of the drunk when I got on the bus. Everyone should know that people who are asleep on night buses are best left to it. However, some fellow passengers (who were drunk themselves) decided to “help” him. They roused him from his slumber, with great difficulty, and asked where he was going to. He slurmumbled “Walthamstow”. We were in Shepherd’s Bush heading west, the opposite direction to Walthamstow. Obviously this was not ideal, but it happens, and sleeping until Uxbridge before getting the bus back into town to eventually make it to Walthamstow was the best option. Unfortunately my fellow passengers disagreed. They insisted that he could get a bus from Shepherds Bush Green, now a five minute walk away from where we were, and hauled Walthamstow Man off the bus whereupon his trousers fell down around his ankles. My last image of him as the bus pulled away was of him swaying on his feet, trousers round his ankles, and four teenagers in black approaching him. This was 11 years ago and I think about it at least once a month and wonder if he made it back to Walthamstow.

This isn’t nearly as weird as OP’s story, but it still sticks in my mind. Years ago I was on a bus driven by a guy who had this bizarre inability to stop at the Turnpikes Troubadoursgold shirt it is in the first place but correct place. His driving was fine until he needed to pull into a bus stop, when every time he’d overshoot it so much that the doors were several yards from the shelter. Eventually someone chewed the driver out when he overshot a stop for about the 6th time and made some poor old fella push his wife’s wheelchair over wet grass. The driver said nothing in response, and clearly didn’t take it on board, as he still stopped miles away from every subsequent stop on the journey. I’ve experienced my fair share of bus drivers who’ve driven too fast, braked harshly, tailgated, etc, but all of them have been able to stop where they were supposed to. So I just found it baffling that this guy drove otherwise impeccably, but that was the one thing he just couldn’t grasp. I had a driver pull over and start clipping his fingernails at the stop before the stop I wanted to get off at. After a couple minutes of this, I realized he wasn’t going anywhere, so I got up to leave the bus. He said he hadn’t realized anyone was still on the bus (and apparently didn’t feel the need to finish the route??) and offered to continue on, but at that point I was ready to be out of there. Who the hell just clips their nails onto the floor of the bus? Like… at least clip them into a bin or out the door. Nasty. I’m just glad he didn’t take of his boots and start working on grooming those badboys.
