I would also go as far as saying that the tourism industry in VN is pretty bad. They don’t even try and hide the money grab. They could learn a few things from their Thai neighbors. If you’re going to visit VN, you really need to have a plan and do your homework to avoid the pain. Travelled to all 3 cities, Danang was the most chilled. Also I had no bad encounters in HCMC, Hanoi (Hoan Kiem) was the worst, related to the scams you are posting about. But yeah, you will encounter scams in nearly all big cities, maybe consider to travel to less crowdy spots in Vietnam? Or do not stay in the most touristy spots of the cities. Vietnam is very beautiful and I haven’t been scammed in 2 months. Just say no, don’t starred to shout and move on.
