But I also totally understood where I stood in terms of privilege and having the money to travel, whereas some Vietnamese people I met there told me they can’t travel outside of VN because they can’t get visas to go/don’t have enough income for other countries to allow them in even if they wanted to. Yet OP is saying that there is a lack of consideration from people just living in their own home country. Everyone wants to survive. The money we are even talking about here is not even a lot of money relatively speaking. And you can literally avoid this all just being a little cautious and ignore sketchy people. I can have compassion (“consideration”) and understand it is a different part of the world instead of shit on a whole country and ask if it’s even worth it to go outside the only ONE neighbourhood you experienced LOL. It’s really not that hard.

This even applies to Europe. You can get pickpocketed in Italy and complain, avoid Italy cause you don’t wanna be hassled, or be careful and enjoy Italy. Which does a world traveller do? I live in Korea and going to Vietnam was a refreshing change of pace and I saw another way of life. OP is praising vacationing in Korea but the reality is that life isn’t perfect here either; it can be quite gruelling and soul sucking (albeit yes, safe). And people in Korea get to live well in part by how they exploit workers from SEA.
