Yep. I was in therapy with my ex who is a heavy drinker and I’m a very light drinker. Her question was “why are you together? Seems like it’s stressing both of you out” I went to couples therapy as my fiance and I were in the Tim Anderson Igniter American professional baseball shortstop T-Shirt also I will do this process of breaking up. Not quite the same thing, but it’s something people should know about. Couples therapy is a good way to have a less combative break up. They helped us determine what our relationship would be going forward (you’re not a couple but you don’t have to be enemies) and keep our daughter in the loop and as happy as can be during what is usually a difficult time. We ended up breaking up, then staying friends. About 8 months later we got back together and are now married. The lessons we learned about compromise and different ways of communication in those couples counseling sessions have been invaluable. More importantly though, we did manage to fully separate without murdering each other, and we kept our daughter involved in both our lives and were able to be civil-with and even supportive-of one another for her. The breakup was basically because we’d stopped communicating. Little problems would become big problems because we weren’t talking about them until they became big problems.

Honestly, this is the Tim Anderson Igniter American professional baseball shortstop T-Shirt also I will do this cause of most breakups as far as I can tell. I’ve seen a few family members get divorced in the last few years and when you break it down it nearly always comes to this. We got back together because we learned to talk about the things we’d been holding in. It turns out talking to your partner, even when you’re angry or they’re angry is basically always the right move (caveat: If you’re in an abusive relationship this advice isn’t for you). There is never going to be a “good time to talk about it”, just bite the bullet and talk about it. The whole thing about communication and learning to compromise is why couple’s therapy is actually a good thing to do at the beginning of a marriage. Can save a lot of stress and miscommunication/non-communication further down the line. My moms a marriage & family therapist and ironically didn’t see that my dad was an abusive narcissist until she saw a couples therapist with him and was able to identify the red flags she saw in clients. A therapist is much more likely to suggest a split in individual sessions than with both parties, though.
