It seemed like there was a social hierarchy on the The Water Prevailed And Increased Greatly Genesis 718 T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this team like no one could say anything about them but they could talk shit about anyone…like so much for being a team. So it felt very high school clique like In August of 2022 my boyfriend and I signed up for an SN Goenka retreat together. It was his idea and I was very hesitant because of my crippling panic attacks/CPTSD but he convinced me. The meditations, discourse, and food were great. However, my room was inhospitable and I found myself unable to relax when I wasn’t meditating. It was close to 100 F in the room, and there were tons of bugs including wasps that stung me. I just assumed most the rooms were like this, and when I tried to get the manager to help me she often wasn’t available, as a result I couldn’t sleep and I started having some of the worst panic attacks in my life. By day 4 I hadn’t slept in 48 hours and had been panicking off an on for 20 hours straight. There was no choice but for my boyfriend to drive me home. I was devastated, but determined to try again. I was supposed to attend a retreat this week but in anticipation for it I had a brutal 14 hour panic attack. I think my first experience traumatized me a bit especially because when I asked to leave they made me stay almost a whole day to “make sure” I was serious about leaving, making me feel utterly trapped which plays into my trauma and the reasons I have CPTSD in the first place. The center I signed up for this week is a 9 hour drive from my home and there would be no one to drive me back this time. I decided it wasn’t a good idea and cancelled. Again, I am devastated. I want the benefits of meditating for 10 days straight and am so deeply sad that my mind is broken in this way. Should I do a Goenka retreat one day or are these things just not meant for people like me? How could I work up to one? Are there any retreat centers that are very similar but more trauma informed? People with CPTSD that finished them, how did you do it?
