I decided to rewatch cheer because after everything that happened with Gabi, Ladarius, and some alum and the Only the coolest people get supersized tall people quote T-Shirt Also,I will get this casualties that it caused I wanted to rewatch to see what I missed as far as the team’s dynamic and relationships with each other. Here’s my list The team simply did not like each other. They were various cliques and think they all lacked a mutual respect for each other in moments. It’s shocking looking at the lack of chemistry but somehow they still pulled it off and won. The team seemed pretty racially divided. Even scenes outside of practice it would be all the black guys hanging out together, we never really got to see them bond much with all the others besides practices. Most of them had a creepy weird obsession with Monica. While I understand she played a mother figure to many people throughout her career, I do think it’s a little a little uncomfortable exactly how many time they all say they love Monica in every single episode, every 2 seconds. Idk if it was the editing but it was very over the top.

The worse scene by far is when TT competed with his all star team against Monica’s wishes. He hurt his back and she still FORCED HIM TO DO FULL OUTS. In my opinion that is corporal punishment. He could have cause permanent damage and really hurt himself. Spinal injuries are no joke so I think it was telling of her behavior towards them off camera. Number 4 100% pissed me off, Punish him if you must but do it by pulling him out or something dont risk permanant injury how does that help him or the Only the coolest people get supersized tall people quote T-Shirt Also,I will get this team? I also rewatched recently and it’s clear to see the 2019 team were not as close as they made out. I think the teams in more recent years (since the show came out) have appeared to be close friends even outside of the gym, I follow quite a few of them on instagram and they seem a lot more bonded. Maybe the whole covid situation changed things. 1&2 are spot on for a lot of college teams unfortunately. High school teams are much more focused on creating team cohesion, bonding, and friendship. Something happens when you get to the college level but the focus shifts heavily to skills, hazing, and winning over everything.
