I think it’s mostly cellulose and they are a perfect replacement for plastic straws. A local restaurant by me uses corn oil plastics for their cups and straws. The literature says they’re fully biodegradable…but they aren’t edible. A friend of mine, years ago, im talking +20 years now, said all straws should be either cookie or candy so they could be eaten rater than thrown away…he’d probably be a billionaire now if he developed and sold them I wouldn’t eat them. At least refrigerate them. Nice cold ancient condiments on demand. Perfectly sealed packages, most if not all of them contain vinegar anyway. Safe AF They should honestly just allow single use bags for grocery delivery/pickup. I am a shopper for Whole Foods, and I also do Instacart on my own time. It’s often the same customers who order, and it’s very common for them to ask if they can return the bags, or if they can get minimal bags, because they already have soooo many. Reusable bags are only more environmentally friendly if they’re reused a lot. When they’re not, they’re actually less environmentally friendly, because they use significantly more plastic Why can’t they do a pick up system similar to that which milkmen used in the past? Or even just a drop off location of sorts
