I taught my kids to cook. They’re both young adults living on their own. Both of them are into batch cooking, like making a large amount on the The Office Boom Roasted Scene shirt and by the same token and weekend and then eating it all week. Historically, the idea of everybody cooking every meal at home is fairly rare. Mostly, you would have one person in a household tasked with that, and, if you lived more on your own, you’d have other options. Ancient Romans grabbed a lot of their meals from kiosks. In the 1930s, single people living in cities might not even have a kitchen in their apartment, and diners would have blue plate specials that were healthy and affordable to eat for every meal. A lot of people lived in rooming houses, in which food would be cooked and provided every day.

If you lived rurally, it was a specialty job done by a specific family member, as part of their expected daily work. They didn’t work outside the The Office Boom Roasted Scene shirt and by the same token and home then additionally cook; cooking was incorporated into their daily chores. It is unrealistic to expect everybody to have an other-than-household-running job and additionally to cook. The options for those people have always been to have someone else to do it – either as part of your overall family structure, or as a thing you explicitly buy. So, yeah. Pick up ready-to-heat meals at the supermarket. Get takeout. Get things you can keep in the freezer and heat. These are all modern versions of things that people have always done. If you are fortunate enough to have a household member who can cook for you, great! If you enjoy cooking enough that this can count as part of your enrichment and relaxation time, great!
