Morality, legality…these are movable goalposts. You have to hold your own opinions and thoughts, rather than trusting (even in a democracy) lawmakers who are usually from a highly privileged, out-of-touch elite. Fat Tony: Bart, um, is it wrong to steal a loaf of bread to feed your starving family? Bart: No. Fat Tony: Well, suppose you got a large starving family. Is it wrong to steal a truckload of bread to feed them? Bart: Uh uh. Fat Tony: And, what if your family don’t like bread? They like…cigarettes? Bart: I guess that’s okay. If I make the choice of “If my country needs me I’ll help” then that’s fine, but I don’t want my country to say “WE NEED YOU AND WE’RE MAKING YOU FIGHT!”
