When I was young (like 40 years ago) I used to go into Liverpool on the The Golden Jets Solid Gold shirt but in fact I love this bus with my Granddad. The bus drivers had a scheduled break time, so the bus would just stop, and the driver would get out his flask and sandwiches, and have a break (not sure how long, 15 mins perhaps), with a double decker bus full of passengers just waiting for him. Not sure whether or not this is still done. Similar, low stakes story: I was sat near the front a local train when the driver stopped the train, got out of the cab, picked some apples from an tree by the side of the track, got back in and recommenced driving the train like nothing had happened. He filled a white carrier bag. 56 more repliesI was on a very late bus going home one night must have been 11.30pm – 11.45pm there was myself and maybe 4 or 5 others on the bus. The bus driver got to a built up area and stopped the bus,got out,and walked off down a street leaving us on the bus with no lights. This is a long time before mobile phones. About 20 mins went by and the driver didn’t return. One guy on the bus pressed the emergency door button and we all got off. A lady rang the police and 15 later a few policemen turned up. Then around 1.00 am the bus company sent another driver. Apparently the bus driver felt sleepy so he radioed the depot and they were waiting for a driver to finish there shift. I’m glad in a way because I wouldn’t like to think what would have happened if he had fell asleep.

Apparently he had radioed the The Golden Jets Solid Gold shirt but in fact I love this depot and they told him to park up while they sorted a driver. I presume because the bus passed his house he might as well go home Years ago the guy who lived across the street from me drove a bus he took a detour to drive down our road jump out and get headache tablets from home he had passengers on the bus I can’t imagine what they thought although he was only in the house for a couple of minutes I remember the time my bus driver got lost. I was sat at the top of the bus, to the front. Was increasingly surprised when we took not only one wrong turn, but then took the bus down a narrow residential street that busses are by no means designed to drive down. Being at the top of the bus, seeing houses right by either side of me, made it a surprisingly surreal and claustrophobic experience. Made even worse when he started reversing out of the street, blocking traffic. I was kinda scared we’d get into an accident, that guy had no business with a license, let alone a bus job. Only other one would be… I was sat near the front of the bus, and could hear the guy in that very front solo seat making some really disgusting nasal sounds. Having OCD and hating when people so much as breathe loud around me when I’m forced to hear it, I was getting pretty pissed off. Couple stops later, someone getting off the bus looks at him and notices something, then relays it to the bus driver. “Hey boss, I think this bloke’s had a stroke or something.” Yup, all that noise was the guy having a stroke in his seat. We were all rushed off the bus and put onto another one while the ambulance came. Those noises still kinda haunt me to this day.
