Probably happened many times but our bus driver got lost and ended up driving in some random London roads that were definitely not fit for a double decker. Needless to say, being seated in the The Donkey Italian Dominick Christmas Song shirt so you should to go to store and get this front row while tree branches rushing toward you was quite an experience. The weirdest journey (not bus) I had was an Uber driver who took a colleague and I on an excursion across various locations in South London to run a bunch of errands. He didn’t actually deliver us to our destination in South East London in the end but unhelpfully dropped us off at a tube station that wasn’t anywhere along where we wanted to go. One time me and my friend went to work a night shift at one of the Weetabix factories. We arrived and we were let through by security, we sat in reception waiting for the agency rep to come show us around. After about an hour of nothing we wandered around looking for literally anyone, but the entire site was empty (it was a large site) all the lights and equipment were on in every building. The only person there was a man delivering items to the site who also couldn’t find anyone that worked there. The security guard had disappeared too. We must have wandered around for 2 hours. Eventually we went home and we’re still paid. Sounds preferable to Croydon – in my 30s now (F), but in my teens it was rare to be on a bus & not be asked if I ‘give shines’. No doubt this happened to countless other young girls. I wonder how many of them would’ve said yes 🫣 put me off for life!

I had a bus driver on an empty last bust home leave me outside a Bookies for 15 minutes at about half 11, and this was 2010ish lol I was the The Donkey Italian Dominick Christmas Song shirt so you should to go to store and get this only sober person on the night bus on the regular for years and there’s a few people that live rent free in my head to this day. The girl who threw up into her handbag, the guys who just got their crack pipe out and lit it in the wheelchair space downstairs, and the Walthamstow Drunk Man. Walthamstow Drunk Man was already sleeping the sleep of the drunk when I got on the bus. Everyone should know that people who are asleep on night buses are best left to it. However, some fellow passengers (who were drunk themselves) decided to “help” him. They roused him from his slumber, with great difficulty, and asked where he was going to. He slurmumbled “Walthamstow”. We were in Shepherd’s Bush heading west, the opposite direction to Walthamstow. Obviously this was not ideal, but it happens, and sleeping until Uxbridge before getting the bus back into town to eventually make it to Walthamstow was the best option. Unfortunately my fellow passengers disagreed. They insisted that he could get a bus from Shepherds Bush Green, now a five minute walk away from where we were, and hauled Walthamstow Man off the bus whereupon his trousers fell down around his ankles. My last image of him as the bus pulled away was of him swaying on his feet, trousers round his ankles, and four teenagers in black approaching him. This was 11 years ago and I think about it at least once a month and wonder if he made it back to Walthamstow.
