I think a lot can be forgiven visually if you are clearly outperforming in your talent and presentation (Jinkx S5, Bob S8 to a lesser extent). Amanda hasn’t really demonstrated skill in the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this other categories of the show, so for her to also look clearly under developed in the look just makes her look like an amateur learning the ropes around a bunch of career professionals, which I think is to Plane’s point I agree completely. I’m excited to see what Amanda’s strengths are. I hope she’s able to drop the PJ drama because I want to see her outside of the bickering with her. I mean, I feel like it ended at the top of the episode when PJ apologized. But for some reason Dawn brought it back up in Untucked and lured Amanda back into the drama again. It seemed like PJ was over it. I’m not a PJ stan but yeah I agreed with her when she said this is the last time she’s apologizing for this and shut it down. It’s old drama that needs to be dropped already. The number of times Amanda said she is over it convinced me she is definitely not over it. PJ is deliberately antagonistic, and Amanda is falling right into the trap; or she is playing the game.
The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt: Perfect for Fans
Unresolved conflict means you aren’t gonna go home yet. PJ is definitely stirring to get maximum air time, maybe Amanda is too. I think it’s moreso that the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this majority of people including queens and fans alike want queens who get on the show to have a chance to win. Of course that’s hampered by the obviousness of the producers always casting “filler queens” that have next to no shot at winning anyway. In Amanda’s case, it’s still clear that someone with her aesthetic (in its current iteration) is not what you’d generally expect from that of someone who’s won Drag Race. However, that’s not to say people haven’t won drag race looking busted on runways (Jinkx and Bob come to mind on their original seasons but in modern Drag Race I’d argue the majority if not all the winners have some brand of aesthetic in mind). Alaska talked about Amanda’s makeup on race chasers and she’s said this many times about the show. Once you see yourself on tv for the first time, you adapt. And adapting isn’t necessarily changing your aesthetic. I think she came in knowing her aesthetic she just didn’t know how it would look on tv.
On one hand I adore crunchy queens, sometimes the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this lack of polish makes it better. Recent example: Mother Melinda CDR4. But on the other, I don’t think it’s a wrong thing to say. So long as we’re calling this the Olympics of drag anyway. But the Olympics of drag is just a saying. It’s not REAL. you can’t really judge nerve or charisma by any objective metric and theyre two of the most important factors of competing on drag race. Most of drag race judging is subjective. I think saying Olympics of Drag is just a saying kinda takes away from the intense physical and emotional toll it puts on the queens. Sure we can call it something else, but I think it’s more than a saying. Here’s the thing: I think crunchy IS an aesthetic though. And when done right, it’s great. Like Connie for example. I think people think crunchy isn’t aesthetic but if it’s what your brand is, it works. Are you crunchy because you’re a crunchy queen and that’s your brand? or are you crunchy because you haven’t fine tuned your makeup skills before coming to the Olympics of Drag? Drag Race tests so many different skills—makeup, fashion, comedy, singing, acting, dancing, sewing, the list goes on and on. But everyone has weaknesses and I don’t think it’s fair to say that any one skill is absolutely required, period, no questions asked. As viewers we determine what’s important to us and what we can look past.

Step by step to buy The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt
I agree 100%. Yes Plane Jane has a more polished aesthetic, but i find Amanda FAR more funny and entertaining to watch than Jane. Jane would be nothing without her villain arc imo. I’d much rather a queen who’s rough around the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this edges but is an entertaining performer with their OWN personality vs. a queen with an overly produced fake ass persona (cough cough PJ basically ripping off Jimbo’s drag but making it less funny). It’s a competition show and they actively cast people who are clearly still struggling to use them as fodder. So it will never be a case where everyone is at the same base level. But she’s right. Yes and no. You come in with your best but also be open to critiques from the judges and have the ability to adapt. Crystal Methyd is a good example. Michelle hated her makeup on the first episode and she changed it up. Made it softer to appeal to Michelle.
Yes, as I mentioned they should always be open to growing and learning. I would say that Crystal came with her best aesthetic and she was open to learning and growing. We’ve seen a lot of really established queens bring their finest looks to the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this show and absolutely tank. We’ve also seen a lot of crunchy queens come on, vastly outperform audience expectations, and become fan favorites. I think it would make for a less interesting show if all the queens showed up fully cooked, so to speak. A little of both, you should come with your best, but also ready to learn a lot about yourself. You shouldn’t even apply for the show till you are ready. It is a competition after all and you should bring your best. But being a competition you’re going to learn so much more and you should be open to apply that to yourself. Drag Race has different types of queens from different backgrounds with different strengths and weaknesses. Not everyone is gonna have their absolute best aesthetic ready. However, makeup should be one of the things that you have figured out for the race imo, or at least better that what she was serving.
Also Amanda fits the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this token “crunchy/unpolished superstar” of every year. Look at Adore & Heidi; at this point they were clearly unpolished but had one really standout moment by their third episode, just like Amanda. I can’t say she’ll be as good as their runs but just pointing out similarities. Absolutely not. Queens show up from all walks of life and many of them grow beyond anything they could imagine. Some of the best RPDR is when a queen uses their resourcefulness to succeed when the odds are stacked against them. Historically, great queens have come to drag race who did not bring their “best aesthetic”. Arguably, Bob the Drag Queen (my favorite of all the winners) did not come with their best aesthetic, but thrived in the competition and won. It drove Thorgy crazy.
Right. Jinkx. Remember: “I tried to tease it, but I think I just pissed it off”? The journey through her fashion and painting was an essential part of her underdog storyline. The queens that get into Drag Race get there because Rupaul or the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this producers liked them as is, and watching them grow will be part of that journey. We don’t have to like every queen that walks in at that phase in their life. That’s what makes All Stars so great, watching that growth. I also have a problem with a queen, whose first time is on the show, making these rules up out of their ass. If we really want to set these rules, then every queen that walks in though know how to sew- and from what we watched Plane said this on the week she looks better, I can’t imagine her having said that last week when she looked busted. I think Plane Jane has a point, but also… you go on the show when you can get on. You apply because why tf not, and then you get the call? Of course you say yes even if your closet has 3 dresses in it and you don’t know how to draw a brow.
If they are coming in to win then yes. If they want to spend tens of thousands of dollars preparing for this competition to make friends and learn makeup… Then go off queen, but I truly think that’s a silly decision and I think it’s totally fair to point it out especially when there are people in the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this room who came PREPARED to compete. Should they come as well prepared and in their best shape? Yes. Does that mean they can’t learn and evolve from critiques? No. PJ’s comment was fair with ATM coming in what she believed was her best but she’s also growing and applying lessons throughout her time, which is to be expected. Agreed, that’s why I said they should be open to learning and growing. Being your best doesn’t mean you’re perfect or flawless. It means you are putting your self out there. What’s your best today will not or should not be your best five years from now no, she literally went on the runway wearing a jersey and denim shorts so there’s room for improvement there too
I think Amanda knows she’s got things to work on, I don’t think she fully believes her fantasy and doesn’t have a clear idea and she’s learning which is fine. But if you look at Jane, she’s got her idea and believes her fantasy so it works. I don’t think every queen to ever walk into the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this room needs to be 100% figured out and perfect, but I’d rather watch a queen who knows who she is learn how to be versatile within her aesthetic rather than watching a queen completely figure that out from the ground up. I am excited to see both of their progression through the show, but I definitely think the show has started to cast underdeveloped(idk a better word to describe the point) queens to put them on All Stars and show their glow up, instead of watching a somewhat fully formed queen break out of her box and learn how to do what she does best and show the judges what they want on a regular season.
Wouldn’t being able to sew sorta fall under that same thing? Her entrance look was super polished , the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this others have been less so. I hated Planes construction garment. And the non matching nude tights were not the move lol I will say I did love her Cher look. I expect for every Queen to have hits and misses for sure. I’m looking forward to seeing what Amanda brings in the looks department and in the challenges. She’s clearly here for a reason Nah, that’s privileged to be frank. It’s also narrowing what we call art by making the focus solely “aesthetic”. Mind you, privilege can be anything from your money, to your network, to the opportunities had. How many iconic artists came without the best aesthetic? Jinx, Chichi, Bob, Adore (and more!)
Some have already said it, but some come to the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this program and have their eyes opened. (Aja has expressed this sentiment pretty clearly). It’s one thing if a drag artist mentions “I came on the show to find myself”, in which case… It’s a competition, so maybe not the best platform to do so. But I don’t know, All Stars glowups happen often for a reason. Their personal best? Sure… I mean, they shouldn’t come to drag race looking worse than they could do on a regular night before the show. But in terms of having to come with an All Stars-level kit, absolutely not. BUT, fair or not, they need the personality to compensate for that these days. I think it really doesn’t need to be as much of a secret who is on there. We don’t need to have a formal cast announcement, but we can let the girls have a couple months notice, and go to designers with IOU requests. It’ll leak, sure, but it leaks now. Giving girls the chance to present what they are excited about, what they are thrilled to be able to show, can only make for a better show.
Plane Jane came to win drag race. She’s hungry for it, and in her eyes anyone who isn’t there to win might as well not be there. It’s why she kept repeating how she isn’t scared after seeing the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this queens walking in. Some girls came to be on the show, have a good showing and return a few years later for All Stars. The ultimate goal is vegas, headlining tours or starring in a WOW original. Not necessarily joining the winners circle. You should come in with your best but let’s not forget the contestants are chosen. RPDR chose Sugar and Spice, knowing they were very young and inexperienced compared to a lot of others. The best for queens like S&S is going to be different than the best from someone like Sapphira or Mirage. This is a competition but it’s also a TV show and they want good TV. It always reminds me of the Hunger Games. Katniss’ problem was she didn’t know how to play the game, or want to.
In this case they all do want to play the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this game, or they wouldn’t have applied to get on. And if they don’t know how to play the RPDR game by now then they just haven’t been paying attention. I think they should all be open to advice for changes and improvements, but at the same time you need your A-game, whatever that might be. I agree with her. RPDR isn’t the place where you discover what your drag persona is and how to do drag. It’s about proving why you’re the next drag superstar. Queens should come to RPDR with their best skillset and performance chops. You can buy pretty stuff. You can learn how to do makeup. You cant buy talent. You cant learn how to act as well as someone who has it in them
It’s the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this same argument roxxxy and others had for jynkx that stemmed from pageant girls thinking the “crunchy” artsy comedy girls were given more passes to learn and grow on the stage. I disagree that it’s a problem and it’s really just more telling of the accusing queen’s own insecurity. I forget which winner said it but she said you don’t go drag race to find your brand. It is better if you are the complete package already . This includes make up skills… Why spend so much money just to get pork chopped? It is a personal thing to know when to apply to drag race when the time is right. I’d rather have a crunchy queen that is an experienced entertainer on a show that is supposed to entertain me, than bedroom queens, or queens that have been performing for barely a year but look snatched. Honestly, there is something so hilarious to me when I look at Amanda’s ambition lookwise and the end result, especially in the first episode. Now, of course every queen should aspire bring their best, but not every drag queen is about aesthetics. It’s not RuPauls School for Girls. It’s always so nice to see the queens grow as people and artists, but you should have at least 1 area of drag that you have developed and refined to be successful in terms of the show. That could be aesthic, comedy, performance, etc. I think the problem is she seems like she’s still kinda working on everything on the show? She just hasn’t wowed me at least (except with that Michelle Visage look last week.)
I’m with Plane and you on this too. They should already be at their best. However, the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this producers are not; and as such Casting makes the call to push queens through who will entertain the audience (Amanda) or have a captivating storyline, but stand almost no chance of winning. Some of these girls end up as fan favorites or underdogs and they keep the wheels turning for the fandom and the show’s success. I think they should start televising Pageants and highlighting more drag that’s actually at a similar caliber and style so you can enjoy seeing the best queens performing in different categories stacked against each other. Let’s be real a lot of these queens do bring their best aesthetic. They just aren’t that good when they’re cast.
I’m 22f and I’ve never really worn makeup in my life, typically I just put on some eye liner I got at the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this dollar store before work or something. But my boyfriend that I’ve recently started dating, 35m, really likes it when I do my makeup. I don’t even know where to start, looking things up it’s talking about primer and concealer and foundation and eyebrow gel and all this shit. Its such a marketing ploy (and that’s not even to mention all the skin care shit) like do I really need to put 3 layers of shit on my face everyday? On top of that I get pimples and stuff and I have really sensitive skin (I have broken out in hives before over perfume) it’s just overwhelming, I don’t know if I’m cut out to do this whole girl thing. What do I actually need to get started and what brand of makeup do I even buy and what kind of brushes and sponges and stuff do I need?Run away from a man 13 years older than you who is trying to make you change yourself for him.
After you have dumped his ass, if you still want to learn how to do your makeup for you, I will gladly give you all the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this tips Sis he’s 13 years older than you and asking you to change your habits. You are about to be groomed. Run the fuck away. Never stop asking yourself why they don’t date their own age, and remember you’re worth more than anyone who would be attracted to someone who was born when they were already in middle school. Deep breath…. First, you don’t have to do anything, but if you want to explore makeup techniques, check out Wayne Goss on YouTube for starters. I also like Nikki LA Rose. As far as marketing, you’re not wrong which is why makeup and skincare subs help. There are great, affordable drugstore brands like ELF and Milani to get you stocked up, no need to spend hundreds, ever.
Someone will chime in soon with excellent advice on what makeup items you should consider for getting started. I just wanted to hop in and say hello. Maybe just start with a tinted sunscreen or moisturizer. Add a bit of powder and Blush for oil control and some color. Mascara for eyes. But only if you want to. Came to say this! Less make up is not only prettier (and better for your sensitive skin) but also very “in” right now. I wear facial sunscreen and mascara and eyeliner occasionally and still get complimented as much as when I did a full face. When I want a little more, I add a little blush/bronzer and a thin line of eyeliner At the The Amity Affliction surfin’ skeleton shirt moreover I love this end of the day, your face is your face and it’s beautiful! If you want to enhance your beauty or indulge in your boyfriend’s requests now and then that’s great! But less is more, primer, foundation, eyeshadow are all kind of extra and not always needed. You can’t go wrong with a good mascara. I love the princess one (black and green) by essence at Ulta, it’s $5 I am your age – 22f and i wouldnt look twice at a 35yo. We have nothing i common w9th them, we are Just finishing University while at 35 they could have grown Kids. Personally I couldn’t get into makeup until I had started to look at it from gender inclusive / gender resistance framework. The idea that makeup was a tool to access feminity never worked for me, always made me feel like I was not enough. Looking at makeup as a creative tool for self expression was my starting place – I now do a lot of typical neutral femme daily makeup, but I would definitely recommend looking at it as an artistic medium first. Creativity is more rewarding that analyzing and trying to perfect your face. If you have sensitive skin, that will be the always and forever guiding tenant of your makeup. It will inform your product selection, application tools and techniques and other preferences. Everybody has a thing like this. It’s the special consideration of your canvas. For me, I have olive undertones – I always have to consider that. The uniqueness of our skin and bone structure as canvas is both one of the most fun and most frustrating things about makeup. Start with skin care and hybrid skincare products. You don’t need to start with as many layers. Layers of primer, setter etc. are things you will naturally start to get curious about once you start playing with other products. Ex) I don’t prime my face every day, I don’t find the payoff worth the product cost / time investment in my daily routine. I don’t do full face coverage often, generally just a tinted moisturizer and a bit of concealer on my dark circles. I also have nights out when I prime, set with spray, set with power and do full colour corrections ahead of full coverage.
