I’ve never been stuck in quicksand so thank you to the That’s what i do i read books i drink tea and i know things black cat vintage T-Shirt and I love this movie industry for preparing me for, and helping me avoid it. Hell, I was born in the early 80s and this was definitely a thing. I really thought that quicksand, acid rain, and nunchucks were going to be serious concerns in my life when I grew up. Turns out the big issues are permitless concealed carry for FL Man, climate change, and congress arguing about what bathroom people should use. Dr. Strangelove definitely should have had a quicksand scene. Stanley Kubrick missed an obvious piece of satire there. I can’t tell you how many times I attempted to create quicksand after never spotting any while roaming around. I started with sand and just a little water, but after a while it seemed like there was too much water, so I added the slipperiest (clay, mostly) mud I could find, for that suction factor. I figured my three foot deep pit would be sort of a baby step to something more serious, but I could never really get it to feel very treacherous or “slurpy.” Major disappointment.

This, the That’s what i do i read books i drink tea and i know things black cat vintage T-Shirt and I love this Bermuda Triangle, and a light tap on the back of the neck rendering ANYONE unconscious for however long is convenient for the writers,,,lies that became “known “ cuz you saw it so regularly. Those, and “shooting the gun out of their hand!”also a constant for decades with ZERO basis in reality. As a child, I was led to believe that quicksand, piranhas and bigfoot were going to be a much bigger part of my adult life… ieving quick sand was going to be a major issue in life. I found it was not quite the problem I was raised to believe. My biggest takeaway was you can’t sink in quicksand like those movies show. I guess sinking to your waste isn’t as exciting? I totally remember this as a kid. We have the collective imagination to come up with much scarier scenarios now. I actually found quicksand at the beach this last summer. I recorded it because as a genX, I had heard about it my whole life. If you went to Universal Studios they’d show you the platform they used to fake quicksand. It was close to the water tank they’d use for ship miniatures. I used to fill those giant drink buckets with sand, mud, and water then sit on it until I sunk to the bottom. It’s like a weighted blanket from the universe.
