Let’s just go ahead and get this out there. His being a farmer is not the Terry Sawchuk professional ice hockey goaltender Detroit Comet T-Shirt Also,I will get this reason Fox has him on to complain about Biden. And much of it is from stockpiles that would have been used by our own soldiers against who? It’s a proxy war that costs us a fraction of our weapons and none of our soldiers. People defending their own country’s existence will put up a stronger fight than those sent to defend a land they have no skin in. In keeping with the trend of over-arming the fuck out of police departments, maybe we should prioritize domestic anti-aircraft needs It goes to American workers who make new weapons for America and earn their wages through it. The old stock is sent to Ukraine. about a third of ukraine aid is old equipment, another third is cash, and the rest is new weapons and support services. Very approximately. Seriously, people are so stupid. These weapons have shelf lives. They take them from the stock pile give them to Ukraine. Our weapon manufactures create more weapons and create jobs and more money in the economy, etc. War is big business, meanwhile we get to fight a proxy war with one of our enemies for the fraction of the cost without boots on the ground. If Putin wins, the rest of us are fucked. I would send money to Ukraine (and Palestine) if I had enough disposable income to do so.

Sending money to Ukraine so they can fight the Terry Sawchuk professional ice hockey goaltender Detroit Comet T-Shirt Also,I will get this war themselves and weaken Russia in the process is the best value for money proposition you’re likely to see. Of course it’s not like the Republikans will support pushing back on Papa Bear Vlad as he tries to take Eastern Europe and beyond. I mean I’m proud blue and am all in favor of aid to Ukraine. And there’s sectors of farming that are doing well. But as a farmer let’s keep a couple things in context. That “wealth” is definitely there and not disputing that but keep in mind farming is incredibly capital intensive (which makes entry into it almost impossible sadly). One tillable acre in southern MN is give or take 10,000. And to support a family on that income you likely need to operate somewhere between 500-1500 acres depending on some variables. I’m a hog farmer. And independent hog farms are facing extinction. I don’t blame Biden for that (Trump was the absolute worst). But we need enforcement on anti competitive practices in an industry facing heavy consolidation. Our 3 families under the family farm sell 25,000 pigs a year. We lost money on every pig this year. My hope is to reach $5 margin per pig, but rarely do we over the last decade (keep in mind this is 3 families that gets spread out to). We have a boat load of safety nets to keep the lights on on the crop side (which there’s good and bad with). But until we’re able to enable a true free market and not the sham we sell into now we need some on the hog side or it’ll all be fully integrated. Two weeks ago, 75 head were negotiated in this country. 40% of the pigs sold in this country have a direct tie back to cash through their formula pricing. There were 490,000 sent to market that day. Those 75 head have a hugely disproportionate impact on the market. And there’s no way for us to know if it’s a farmer selling to a packer or if it’s Smithfield selling pigs they raised to another packer (75 pigs is not even half a semi load). So a packer could take a hickey on selling a part load in order to buy back thousands of pigs cheaper due to a lower cash price.
