I was a student waiting for the Syracuse Orange 2023 School Of Architecture shirt in other words I will buy this night bus at around 2am.There were several rival bus companies, main ones being X and Y. Each would try to increase their customer base by getting you to buy a weekly ticket. Bus Y pulled up. A bunch of male students got on and one showed them an X pass. The driver said he didn’t accept X passes just Y. One of them said “O just fuck off then!” to the driver, then they made to get off. The driver got out of his booth, off the bus, then proceeded to lamp the lad in the face, hitting him till he fell on the ground. We all stood there in stunned silence. The driver then got back on the bus and drove away. I (M 19 at the time) lived in Amsterdam in the early 1990s and lived about 5 stops outside the city on the underground metro. I had gone to meet some friends in the city and we’d said goodbye and I was hoping to catch the last train home. I thought there was a chance I’d missed it but as I was passing a city centre underground station, I decided to go in to check if it had gone yet, as the station was still open. In this station there were two entrances with two staircases facing each other, both leading down to the same single platform. My luck was in, or so I thought, as there on the platform, heading in the direction I was going was what I assumed to be, the last train, lights on, engine running ( or electrics or whatever it ran on) but doors closed. Lights on the platform still on.

As I got halfway down the Syracuse Orange 2023 School Of Architecture shirt in other words I will buy this staircase I saw the train driver/employee of the metro with uniform and cap on, coming down the other staircase. I headed towards the train and waited beside the closed carriage doors assuming the driver would open them and I’d shortly be on my way home. The driver then heads up the staircase I’d just come down and comes back down onto the platform about two minutes later. He walks by me, without a word, jumps into the train, leaving the carriages all closed and proceeds to drive away. Very strange behaviour, I reckoned, but I paid it no heed and started to leave the station, thinking I’d have to enquire somewhere about getting a night bus. I left via the opposite entrance I used to come in. Or at least I tried to. I got as far as the gate to the street and saw it was chained shut. Not really too bothered but thinking this evening was taking a strange turn, I headed towards the platform again and then up the staircase I’d used to come in. I got as far as the gate to the street I’d used to come in and saw that it too was resolutely chained shut.
