But as far as resources like food and water go, that’s 100% a distribution issue, not a “too much demand” issue. We waste so much, horde so much, it’s actually mental. We overproduce if anything, and just choose not to distribute more fairly, unless there’s a financial incentive to do so. We need so much mass transit so that all these people aren’t in cars, putting in even more CO2 and contributing to urban sprawl that will end up creating even more CO2. I feel like there doesn’t really need to be that many people. Not that I wish anything bad happens, but if like 2 billion of them just ceased to exist, I feel like we’d be okay, y’know. We don’t manage humanity like a herd of cattle. Infant and childhood mortality dropped, malnutrition dropped, etc so the already high birthrates led to a population boom. But now fertility rates are dropping, and are already at sub-replacement rates in most rich countries.

In ~100 years, all 8 billion people currently alive will be dead. If they were replaced by 6 billion people, there would be no loss to anyone.
