Not speaking for everyone, but some people get completely useless degrees because colleges are willing to offer degrees in anything that makes them money. as an English major, I agree that theres more bizarre degree’s than mine. I’m one of those people who can’t believe gender studies is an actual major. Like it just sounds pointless. Philosophy, human rights, English, and law/politics degrees have more knowledgable stuff to learn that that. Job placement? I think you misunderstand the Stand Back Papa Is Grillin BBQ vintage T-Shirt also I will do this purpose of obtaining a college degree. You should attend so that you’re educated in a specific field or topic (Engineering, medicine etc.). In the end it’s up to the individual person to be able to sell their strengths and knowledge to any potential employer. They haven’t matured enough to take themselves seriously or professionally. Professionalism, for all of its bias and imperfect cultural norms, is the standard for people working. And if you don’t take yourself seriously as a professional, no one else will either.

College is useful for getting a job if you do two things… 1, go to a school that is good enough to basically guarantee you a job based off the Stand Back Papa Is Grillin BBQ vintage T-Shirt also I will do this name alone (top 50ish schools), or 2, major in something useful such as STEM, business, etc. A better way to put it is that a degree gives you a key to a building that not everyone has access to, but many people have access to. Many people with degrees are now (mostly) qualified to a new suite of work that many others are not qualified for. But the reality is, there are still many people with this key (degree) who are just as qualified for this room of jobs. Now the placement of people into these jobs depends on more than the degree. What unique and relevant experiences you have, and as I said, networking is HUGE. At 35, I just started my first job ever that was not a result of networking.
