Dang it! I randomly put the Sorry I Can’t I Have Plas With My Boat Birds Sailing T-Shirt so you should to go to store and get this CMT Awards on because I couldn’t find anything else to watch, and after watching a few too many men in the audience straight up frowning during female/POC artist performances and presentations, I put on something else lol… Was this early in the show and I missed it, or later in the show and I should’ve stuck it out? Edit: this comment has nothing to do with the artist herself. That’s why I specifically said camera operator. I don’t think she’s doing anything to hide the girls or diminish them. I like the statement she is making and I’m grateful, like many other lgbt people, to see representation on a country awards show stage. If you perceived it that way, I guess you’re right in that sense as it gave you that impression. From my POV, I don’t have anything else to compare it to. I just think Kelsea is the star here and the camera needs to be on her 90% of the time. I think it’s clear she wasn’t hiding the queens away. Manila was right next to her as they walked down the runway. The queens walked around her in a circle. She made eye contact with all of them. They were all taller than her and all had vibrant colors on. I didn’t pay much attention to the lyrics or how the queens exactly fit into the narrative beyond that Kelsea’s approach seemed to be positive and happy with some self-empowerment, self-confidence celebration vibe and the queens were actually the perfect complement to that.

Having 4 queens I think was a better idea than when Miley had 400 queens on. That number was utter chaos. That of course was about showcasing queens. Here the queens were background but I think still shined. And I think the camerawork is all pre-planned and simply had to focus on the star. Now let’s see Trixie Mattel and Orville Peck on the CMT Awards, and their videos in rotation and that will be actually amazing in a different way. But overall, this is a positive. Overall it’s still a conspiracy to force Kennedy to perform country music, like when she was a misused lipsync assassin, but here it just totally worked. And the director was fine with them lipsyncing along for fun. Overall it was great.
