I get what you’re saying but my comment has nothing to do with the girl singing. That’s why I specifically stated “camera operator”…. Yeah, I went off I know. Still I wonder if the performer has any say over the camera work. They definitely have to have a blocking rehearsal and the performers see where the cameras are. I guess it’s all connected. I never have watch the CMTA. What I don’t know is I they would normally show some audience reactions during the performances.

I used to work as a performer (nothing as big as a music awards tho) but given my little experience with stardom- usually the Soulmates Married Since May 2014, Never Ending Love Story 9th Wedding Anniversary T-Shirt and by the same token and performer has little to no say about what the camera is doing. That’s kinda why I brought it up, because the artist looks like she’s having a great time with the queens, but the camera is literally so zoomed in on the singers face most the time. Think back to any music award show we’ve seen throughout our lives, how many times did the camera operator zoom in to a shaking ass? Or the dancers on stage? And you’re right, what about audience reactions? It was just like an “oh of course they are completely zoomed in on her face while she’s around the queens” moment for me. Although, not surprisingly since I feel like country music is a bit more of a conservative crowd. I say this as someone who has lived in Florida for over 10 years. So to me, it just came off kinda shitty and I felt like there were some higher ups that probably weren’t happy about the drag queens and made it a point for the camera operators to avoid giving them screen time. I know, sounds a little conspiracy but as a black person who experiences micro aggressions on a daily, I felt like it was a slight to the queens to intentionally show as little of them as possible. Due to the political standing of the audience and higher up production company running the whole thing.
