Again, the status quo is that areas of lower density receive more funding than areas with higher density. I am not saying they should be funded less, I am saying there should be funding parity. We are heading towards climate catastrophe. We absolutely cannot afford to encourage and support unsustainable lifestyle choices. It would be authoritarian to ban them, but if people want to live an inefficient lifestyle at least pay for such inefficiencies out of their own pocket. It’s really, really regressive to siphon money away from poorer areas to subsidise richer areas. You may not realise it yet, and it’s probably not your intention, but it’s exactly what you’re advocating. What about all the poor areas of the north which are low density? Should those poor people experience “funding parity” too and be further deprived? Why are you insistent that people should get the advantages of lower-density living but not have to pay for any of the higher costs of serving a sparser population?
