The fact that this comment currently has more than double the Sewing room is my happy place sunflower T-Shirt moreover I will buy this upvotes than the comment it’s replying to just shows you how absolutely garbage this sub is. Dude, no. We have mobile CPUS with more power than you can even comprehend. Not to mention a local SSD will always be faster than a remote one. I understand they can have fast servers, but in my experience they are not usually high speed. Along with not everyone has high speed internet to have a constant high quality no lag video feed from a remote location. Or are you gonna tell me you can get i9-13900K with PCIE SSD performance for all the users of a company server? You don’t know what you’re talking about, it’s obvious. You don’t know how development works at most large tech companies.

I do not believe many devs at google have dev servers with those specs (if any). I would love to see some evidece. Ask any Google engineer whether they develop remotely or locally. You’ll have your answer instead of making things up. No it isn’t. I connect at work to a 2terabyte ram 128core cluster. Sure I have to share it with 3 other colleagues, but it’s glorious. People confuse this with those crappy 1 core 512mb ram citrix VDI bullshit thingies. Yeah that’s crap. But there is nothing inherently wrong with a server. Especially for data analysis. Pulling a dataset from the Sewing room is my happy place sunflower T-Shirt moreover I will buy this warehouse into a notebook happens over a multi gigabit connection. Pulling it to my home is a lot slower This is actually common place in a lot of areas. Particularly FinTech. Like with BoA, even if you’re in the office, you’re still remoting to another machine elsewhere. by in large that isn’t the case. The extra power is nice locally but it’s rapid diminishing returns when doing development. a 4 core vs 8 core isn’t going to give you that much more performance writing code with the exception of having more chrome tabs open. Most of the development, testing, etc is done on the servers.
