Are there bad things in today’s world? Of course. There always are. The thing is that humans have evolved to be really good at noticing and worrying about bad things, while tending to discount and disregard the Seattle Seahawks vs Arizona Cardinals at Lumen Field October 22 2023 Shirt in addition I really love this good things. There are sound evolutionary reasons for this – people who discount and disregard the impending lion attack while preferentially noticing the beautiful flowers in the meadow, tend very strongly to die young (often by lion attacks). Pessimism pays dividends in terms of staying alive. But the world is on an improvement curve, not a things-going-to-shit curve. It can be really hard to force our brains to recognize this – but once you start to, it’s pretty obvious. Ask your grandmother – the one who couldn’t have credit in her own name 50 years ago.

So don’t have kids if you don’t want to have kids, but if “the Seattle Seahawks vs Arizona Cardinals at Lumen Field October 22 2023 Shirt in addition I really love this world will be worse in 50 years” is really an important part of why – well, you’re flatly wrong. (And still entitled to your own view of it, of course, but you would have a hard time winning an argument on the topic.) You can reconsider later if you don’t have a child. If you do, you kinda can’t. You’ll make your real decision maybe 10 years later, you don’t have to decide for life now. I have had chronic illess for 17 years, from my late 20s to early 40s. It destroyed my career and relationship and I spend every spare penny on my health. I wanted kids at one point, but no longer. I couldn’t handle it and I’m too tired. If they found a cure for my extremely complex set of issues tomorrow, I might change my mind. And inventing the youth pill would help…a lot 😉
