During a van life hail Mary, we planned to see an estranged aunt of mine. Big mistake. It was riddled with garbage. Working remotely, we parked at a library for a break from the Santa Snoopy merry christmas to all and to Cincinnati Reds a good season shirt besides I will buy this road. Not long after we parked, some thuggish looking dude gets out of his car, and talks on his phone, slowly sauntering by the back corner of our van. I made sure that I locked the doors and that he heard it, and then cranked the van. Needless to say my aunt claimed someone had died on her third or fourth husband’s side of the family, and she was so devastated that she forgot to tell us about the death the day before. We preferred high quality trash, so we went to Myrtle Beach. I lived in San Francisco for almost a decade in the 90s (the last decade where it was anywhere near affordable to do so), and while I have some very fond memories of it, going back there now and seeing all the truly disgusting parts of the city that are populated almost entirely by homeless people is just flat-out depressing. It’s astounding how you can see a multi-million dollar home with a Mercedes parked out front on one block, and then a homeless encampment right around the corner. I do not understand how anyone living in those big expensive houses can look themselves in the mirror when they could quite literally look out their window and see dozens of people living on the street with next to nothing to their name.

Overall, SF is a very beautiful city, but it’s the Santa Snoopy merry christmas to all and to Cincinnati Reds a good season shirt besides I will buy this little corners of desolation and abandonment that exist all over it that stick out to me the most. Yuendumu, Northern Territory. 3 hours outside Alice Springs in the middle of the Australian central desert. A dirt poor aboriginal community, about as far from the coast as you can be in Australia. Wrecked cars and horrible tin shacks everywhere, the poverty was a real shock, it was like I was in Africa, not Australia. I thought I had fallen off the map. They had to start using special petrol in this part of the world as so many kids were dying after sniffing it. If I lived there I would huff it too, just horrible.
