I’ve had this happen to me as well. You’re probably right in thinking it’s self promotion. 9 times out of 10, that’s exactly what they’re doing. That probably is what he was doing, but i wouldn’t be bothered by it. Here is another small creator trying to start a dialog and reach out, showing you that you play the same games. This could have led to a collaboration or at the very least, a youtube colleague you could talk to about the process. Instead, you chose the toxic Twitch thinking and just deemed this other person as an enemy out to take your non-existent views.

Do you know what you lose by being friendly and working with other youtubers? Nothing. It doesn’t matter if they are bigger or smaller, collaborations work. It’s a lot different if they are stealing your content. This was just another gamer trying to be friendly and notice you. Do better. I always consider it support. Your comments help you. I comment often on similar pages to mine and hope that they do the same. Even on my instagram I always tag People. My content speaks for itself. As long as the commenter isn’t being rude, let it benefit the both of you. It is very unlikely they were trying to steal your viewers for 2 reasons: 1) Very few viewers are even going to click on someone because of a comment like that on your video and 2) as I saw below, he is far more established than you are.

He may have commented hoping you would check out his channel and potentially subscribe if you were interested in his content. I commented on his video saying that I was doing the San Francisco 49ers x Grinch They hate us because they ain’t us helmet shirt and I love this same game, pointed out a little tip for him that I had wished I learned sooner that based on his video he didn’t know yet and then commented on some specifics on his video. He then came to my videos and watched mine and commented on some of them as well, I look at it all as a way to make friends, maybe we will collaborate on something in the future. In any case, the algorithm is probably going to show his content along side mine so imo it’s really just supporting fellow YouTube creators I’ve also commented on a video with a direct link to a video of mine bc the video specifically answered a question they had asked in their video. I hope it wasn’t taken as rude or self promotion, it was literally just trying to help. Now, if the comment was simply “come check out my videos on this same game” then I might feel a little differently I have a how to video and some kid commented saying I forgot to mention something, then he commented a couple days later saying it doesn’t matter now because he made an updated how to video on the subject. His editing and thumbnail were trash and his squeaker voice was annoying and he hardly got any views, whereas mine got thousands. I deleted his comment anyway because it bothered me even though maybe he was trying to help, I also saw it as him trying to take my content idea and get some easy views. I think you did the right thing, even if their intentions weren’t bad. I don’t think so. It sounded like self-promotion trying to ride the coat tails of your views. It’s completely cringe.

Theres a huge different between people who genuinely enjoy your video and engage to you VS those who has hidden agenda for their own benefit. You are right for dealing with him this early. If you dont, he will eventually crawling all over your other videos like a stalker virus spam scammer bot. That’s a whole part of building a reputation. This principle applies everywhere, not just on YouTube. I personally don’t mind it, as long as the comments on my channel aren’t blatantly promoting their own content When I was live streaming on other platforms I ran into a lot of ideologies regarding “self promo” and saw a lot of drama between creators about it. To a point there can be issues with it in that space, but honestly if you look at your feelings truthfully you’ll see it’s just insecurity. I gave up any sort of mentality regarding that when making videos on YT because there’s not much time sensitive about that content. If people leave and go watch one of my commenters videos it doesn’t mean they won’t still watch mine and if they are leaving my video then there isn’t anything I could do to stop them outside of entertaining them better. I can’t control viewers but I can control my content, so I try to focus on that. From my personal experience as someone who comments on other creators videos who are making content around what I do: It’s just to network or share joy on a topic. I don’t think I hardly ever see any increase in subs or views from commenting on other videos, but I often get to meet other creators with similar interests and if they don’t respond or interact with me I can at least hope I’ve helped them out by adding engagement to their video. IMO one of the hardest things to do, but one that’s pretty crucial is to spend less time on what you think others are doing and have more time to concern yourself with what you’re doing.

That’s a good point, if time stops, (assuming you aren’t the San Francisco 49ers x Grinch They hate us because they ain’t us helmet shirt and I love this only one unaffected by the stopping of time) for any duration of real-time, if it did stop, it would stop infinitely. And therein lies the paradox. It will be infinitely paused for you, but time will go on for everyone else as if nothing ever even happened. But Time is a global event not a local event, so wouldn’t that mean if time stopped everyone would experience infinite freeze time? Yes, but since time is a global event, that would mean you’re somehow an outlier. Perhaps to you everyone else looks like they’re frozen, but maybe everyone else is experiencing the same thing, to them perhaps it looks like everyone else (including you) is frozen, but to you it looks like everyone else (including them, but not yourself) is frozen, this perspective applies for everyone, essentially everyone is experiencing their own version of freeze time, that’s my theory at least.
