When we bought our house in 2012 we paid $210,000 and locked in at 3.2% for 30 years. 2023, our house is valued at $425,000. Thankfully we are able to maintain it, but we’re in the Ron Swanson Friends One To Three Is Sufficient Shirt but in fact I love this north eastern USA and oil prices keep going up and up. My salary has gone up (career focus shift) but my spouse is now laid off. And yet half of the nation votes republican and despises the idea of a union, universal healthcare or a better life through collective strikes and overall change of the system.. As a European it’s madness to watch the US people doing everything it can to further the power of the people who want to keep them dumb, poor and divided.. Same in the U.K., we have a generation of older people who have houses worth loads because they bought it for £18k and not worth £650k. They have great pensions, big houses, mortgage free, a lot of the women didn’t even work, it’s unbelievable how things have changed. 2 full time working adults struggle to manage when 1 moderate income was enough.. My grandfather was a butcher at a grocery store. This would have been late ‘40s (when my parent was born) to his death in the early ‘70s. He was able to afford (on his income alone) a nice home on multiple acres of land in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. Horses and cows included.

I essentially have the Ron Swanson Friends One To Three Is Sufficient Shirt but in fact I love this same job my dad did when he was my age. He could raise a family of five and take us on cross country vacations. I can barely afford the cheapest house I could find Reagan fucked you all. Subsequent democrats have done nothing to fix it, and every single Republican president has done the same: lower taxes for the rich and the corporation’s while making Labor laws easier to fuck the workers. It’s sad that my now dead Dad told me 30 years ago in the 90s about the working poor in the USA. I’m so sorry for all the deprivation you have. We set up a go fund me for a bloke at work who had a house fire… $1500 from our department within an hour. I hope to heck you guys get your shit together and strike en masse. But we need a world union to support you because even fucking Joe “I’m a union guy” screwed the rail union, and that ended up an environment disaster. Fight for your rights by joining a union. Don’t take shit from employers. Workers are the world, we fucking built it. Not the Bezos or the prick Musk who just bought everything, and pretended he built it. Tesla? Nope. Twitter? You destroyed a stupid platform that was balanced by making it less balanced and for profit. Well done.
