It was a long time ago, and I’ve long since healed. (Also, I’m a black belt, so I probably give off “don’t fuck with me” vibes?) I could definitely see smaller men getting picked on much more easily. And yeah, alcohol definitely brings out the worst in many people. Outside of bars, I haven’t really seen the kind of overt, physical “dominance-challenging” behaviors you see in bars between men, other than in, like, high school. Even in college, the most bro-iest of bros I met were still chill in that regard. It could be because I don’t work in a field where physical strength means anything? I’m a software engineer, so while I can’t say there’s no dominance contests, the ones that we do have are more about intellectual dominance/corporate power than anything else, certainly not about capability to enact violence. I’ve never seen anyone be physically threatening at work, whereas I imagine that might not be the case if I worked construction or in some of the more physical trades.
