Isn’t this the Retro sunset beach retirement quote retired audiologist (copy) shirt What’s more,I will buy this same as getting a basic job, and renting 1 room? I’m confused why they can’t already do what you mentioned. How do you “help” them get a job? I’m talking of people who are truly in the gutter – sheer poverty, long time homelessness, addiction, mental problems, etc. The ones you see rotting in the street. Those people have been out of the system for so long they have forgotten the basics of life. If the prison system can maintain criminals for life with basic accommodations, the same should go for those who really need it for other reasons. I believe they try do to that here in So Cal where I live but the addicts refuse to stay clean and refuse to even come to the shelters. Then they all steal each others stuff. It’s really a tough problem I’m not sure if there’s going to be a practical solution anytime soon. You’re essentially saying we arrest them and provide them with a room and basic needs such as prisoners, but that would be difficult justify. In addition, those jobs you mention are available to people – cleaning, painting, maintaining public infrastructure. Not quite sure what you mean by “maintaining public infrastructure”, but that and painting don’t seem to be exactly low skill positions.

If there is genuine belief in reform, then criminals need more help than the Retro sunset beach retirement quote retired audiologist (copy) shirt What’s more,I will buy this average citizen and prison should be a nice place. If you think prison should be a punishment and as unpleasant as possible then it’s worth seeing how that worked out for the French after WW1. While I was in the army that would have been a two man room. One bunk bed, two wall lockers and one desk, no book shelf. Bathroom and showers down the hall. Jail is rehabilitation – jail is here to help people recover and learn from what they’re done, usually practising group therapy, psychotherapy or even art therapy. At this point either this or the US prisons should be called something else because they are built for ENTIRELY different reasons. One is to punish through suffering and isolation while the other is there to rehabilitate and turn you into a productive member of society. Almost makes one want to commit a crime in Norway if this is the punishment. Get to relive my college dorm days. How come those obviously bad people aren’t subjected to metal bars, shared cells and threats of physical and sexual violence!?
