My asd child decided to transition in primary school after being shown literature without my permission about a transgender fox. This set off my child hyper focus and for 2 years they lived as male. Then the Reel Cool Grandpa Fishing Vintage T-Shirt and by the same token and day they went up to high school they wore a skirt and decided to be female again. I’m so glad I trusted my gut and not the “experts” who offered hormone blockers. Asd females often have imposter syndrome. 18 is required for a tattoo. 18 is required for a contract. 21 is required for alcohol. The brain doesn’t fully develop until your 20s. I can’t see how the choice in drastically altering your body would not fall somewhere in there Nope, no surgery, hormone blockers might be used to stop the child from having puberty until they are old enough to make an informed (ie: adult) decision. the only transitioning children are doing is a haircut and a wardrobe change. Right-wingers like to make you believe parents are “mutilating” their children but it literally doesn’t happen. Please don’t get dragged into their rhetoric ?

puberty blockers (which delay puberty) and hormone treatments (patches, injections, etc) aren’t surgical procedures… they are pretty non invasive medical treatments. I work with kids a lot, and I’ve worked with lots of young teens who take these treatments–they’re fine. Haven’t heard of kids doing much more than puberty blockers and hormones. A lot of changes are also pretty reversible, and doctors are there to monitor folks and check in to make sure people are getting what they need safely from treatment. These treatments have saved a lot of lives. I’ve seen how much happier a lot of trans peers are/how much better they’re doing in school/life after getting the Reel Cool Grandpa Fishing Vintage T-Shirt and by the same token and treatment they need. A lot of folks also start younger to remedy dysphoria coming from other secondary sex characteristics, or because they know innately that they’re trans and that’s what they want. Would like to add that people take hormones at all ages for all kinds of reasons, for a variety of medical conditions. Lots of cisgender people take hormones too.
