Nationalism: as with most countries in Asia, there is a strong sense of national pride. A similar thing happened in Japan. This is why both Germans and Japanese feel awkward/self conscious about overt displays of nationalism…. both countries went all in on nationalism in WWII and were nearly destroyed as a result… Asian countries for the most part haven’t had the same process, except for Japan).
