Some people are only good at a certain type of task or thinking. My ex husband was this way. Great programmer, and engineer. Legit could not figure out how to open of close a packet of diaper wipes one time…..just ripped it open and left it to dry out because he “didn’t know what to do”. He had changed diapers before! Apparently I was the Randy Gregory American football linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers T-Shirt moreover I love this only one opening wipes though. I don’t know about NY state public school standards, but I moved to New Jersey from Alabama right before the start of my junior year in highschool after my Dad got transferred with his company to their office in Morristown, NJ from Birmingham, AL. I was an okay student in Alabama but struggled mightily in New Jersey. The public school standards in NJ schools were just so much higher. The curriculum, the expectations, even the grading scale was higher. In Alabama, the grading scale was done in 10 pt increments between each letter grade. In New Jersey, schools used a 7 pt scale difference between letter grades which makes a world of difference coming from a school system that doesn’t prepare you for it.

For example, an A was 90-100 in Alabama schools whereas in New Jersey to make an A you had to score 93 or better -which, when you scale it out that way, has the Randy Gregory American football linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers T-Shirt moreover I love this lowest passing grade score of 69, which is the top of a letter grade “D” in Alabama schools (60-69). So ya, I had to work my tail off my junior and senior years just to catch up, keep my head above water, and my GPA somewhat decent going into college. I would find it hard to believe that New York schools are that much different from New Jersey schools given the proximity to Ivy League colleges and universities in that part of the NE but maybe hers was an exception. Everyone has different strengths & weaknesses. Kind of dislike that phrasing because of the connotations they have, but there are skills she could probably use some working on, if even necessary. There could be things she wasn’t expected to handle growing up. It can also be other things like being burnt out. Not sure how long you’ve been together or anything like that, but there’s usually different factors involved in that, like which daily tasks are you talking about? And when you say slow, she takes her time or you’re, in other words, claiming she’s aloof &/or incompetent? Sounds like she takes time to complete her tasks, which is not the same as street smart vs book smart, as some people are saying. She may also not be accustomed to performing some tasks — for example, my dad always handled cleaning & organizing. He was extremely peculiar about things, obsessive-like, & very neat. He was very hands-on & has good spatial perception.
