Nothing is free. They (right or wrong) point to countries like Canada and Great Britain where you have long wait times or other supposed problems and they will find people from those countries who corroborate those stories. Edit: Also, the right wingers I know are upper middle class and don’t have any major problems with their current Healthcare setup so they assume it could only get worse. For a lot of people, they would rather hurt themselves than to do something that could help not only them but the “others” they’ve been taught are “less than” (i.e. minorties, immigrants, etc) I think it’s easy to imagine how nice free healthcare would be in the US, but I think if you look really closely at how many people we’d be providing for and consider just how much tax dodging is going on out there, you’d find that the system would go bankrupt pretty quickly. You’d have to not only raise taxes to afford it, you’d have to start getting very tough on tax collection. Pause and think about the people you’re expecting to accept that. Have you seen the kinds of people that go to Trump rallies?
