I remember a statistic from a decade or two ago where every year there were more Journalism graduates then there were total Journalism jobs. It is important to pick a degree with some job prospects. A mix between over saturation and not building connections. A lot of first time students tend to gravitate towards the same degrees which means there can be hundreds or thousands of new grads on the job market each year with the exact same degree. Also not building connections with past alumni and professors can mean you less professional recommendations and connections when you need it. I got my first professional job cause my professor was friends with someone high enough to get me an job with a recommendation letter and just an introductory meeting.

Millennials were basically told that any college degree would get them a job and that was probably true for their parents, but was not true for them at all.
