They were big chunky scratchy to write with and generally were on there last legs in my school at least. Pencils ftw. Having the prestigious permission to just write with one of these bad boys was the pinnacle of flex back in the day, And as a lefty, all of the smears. I ended up using nothing but Staedtler biros in secondary school cos they were ones least likely to smudge. Even worse was the one time I dislocated my left thumb playing badminton (it quite literally popped into an L shape), and my mum and form tutor said just “write it off”?! Off topic but fountain pens were the best purely because of those ink cartridge things that we used to pierce the bottom of then chuck at each other. We didn’t pierce them but we would flick the pen itself at each other and ink would spray on people’s faces/shirts Loved having a go on the berol… sadly never graduated to fountain pen from these because my handwriting was too poor

I don’t get why people say smudging is a uniquely left-handed thing. I’m right handed and I smudge things too, since every time I start a new live, I rest the Offspring Americana 25th Anniversary Shirt In addition,I will do this top of my hand on the line I’ve just written, which still hasn’t had time to dry. I’m 36, so can guess when I went to Primary and High School. If I remember correctly at my Primary, we were only allowed to use Pencils and in year 6, we had a class to, I’m assuming to teach Cursive or as we called, joined up writing. The label on the pen in the picture looks the same but the pen we used was a triangle where you held it. I got so used to that pen, I adopted my grip to normal pens and now I get cramp in my hand with how I hold them after a while
