( early.90s ) I found some of those in the bottom of a box of stuff from my childhood that my mum sent down to me when she moved out of her house. I think its a time thing. I went to a standard/rough junior school on the edge of a big estate oop north and they taught handwriting with fountain pens. One with serious delusions of grandeur. I have a load of stories about pointless rules like this that they instituted. I loved using a fountain pen but then we realised we could use them as weapons and flick ink at each other and we weren’t allowed to use them anymore I can see these being a massive upgrade to a fountain pen to be fair. The few times I’ve used one has been a poor experience that usually ended up messy. I love a fountain pen. I did my final exam for my English BA (Hons) with those disposable fountain pens. I wrote 12 sheets of A4. Yep, had to prove your current one was dead before the teacher would give you a new one. Used to nick duds out of the bin so I could trade in for spares.

Whats wrong with them? Didnt leak like fountain pens and were good for writing when pencils were not allowed because Mrs Smith from the Never Say Die Hellfire club Shirt Furthermore, I will do this english department was a twat I hold my pen in a way where I’d get a huge painful dent on my finger when I used these. I didn’t mind them apart from that That’s a good aim! I have a learning disability which can effect how I write meaning that holding my pen “normally” doesn’t work for me. Luckily, holding my pen in a different way means that my handwriting is pretty good. Just have to work on the spelling now… Honestly I’m the same as u/dotdotmoose. I got abuse from a tutor for holding my pens/pencils the wrong way but that’s how I learned to do it as a kid and it always hurt to hold it the correct way. Got diagnosed with autism later in life and found out I wasn’t alone in this feeling.
