I don’t know how to say this without sounding attacky, but I think “facts over feelings” is not a great relationship idea. Agree on the Nicklas Backstrom Swedish professional ice hockey centre and alternate Washington Capitals T-Shirt in other words I will buy this facts, yes, but feelings definitely should be the major contributor, ultimately. It depends. We were already discussing the feelings aspect fairly well but had a disconnect on the facts part. Frequency of sex and who was initiating were the points of contention, because I felt like we were having sex “not frequently enough” and she felt like we were having sex “fairly frequently.” I also felt like I was initiating most of the time and she disagreed. So the spreadsheet was great because it took the feelings out of that so that we could address both the actual frequency and the feelings about frequency. Turns out, the facts showed that we were having sex about 3 times, which was about as frequently as was feasible for us over an extended period of time. There were some bursts of more and some slightly longer droughts that coincided with life events, but the overall pace was good. But since I was focusing on the droughts, the bursts weren’t standing out in my memory as much so having the data was really helpful. We also tracked who initiated, with him/her/mutual being the three options, and it came out to roughly even thirds. But since I had been viewing the “mutuals” as me initiating, my feelings of “I’m initiating more” were valid but factually wrong

Indeed. Thus it is good to get agreed upon facts. I agree with you about all that. And I agree that you handled your situation well. I’m just saying that “facts over feelings” isn’t a great relationship slogan, because once the Nicklas Backstrom Swedish professional ice hockey centre and alternate Washington Capitals T-Shirt in other words I will buy this facts are agreed upon, the feelings are still critically important. For instance, Person A could present me with factual evidence that I don’t have sex with them as often as I believe, but that probably wouldn’t change my level of desire to have sex with them more often. And for sure it’s not going to make you want to have sex more often. but if it’s an agreed upon thing that having sex fairly frequently is what you both want and your perception is incorrect about how frequently you’re having sex, then it is good info to have that can inform your decision making going forward.
