So by choosing 4K on a 1080p screen, you are seeing the video on a higher bitrate than this new 1080 premium format would provide. It doesn’t really make sense from YT’s perspective. You are just making people choose higher resolutions which costs you more bandwidth and doesnt sell more premium. So yeah, the only logical step for them is to eventually also put the higher resolutions behind the same paywall.
