I once accidentally told an elderly regular customer to fuck off directly to their face, during what was basically small talk and pleasantries, right in front of the store manager. This customer was a pretentious old woman who was notorious among all of us in the shop for her inane complaints/moans, and one colleague had mentioned to us how she tolerated that bullshit by internally repeating the phrase “fuck off” whenever the woman spoke. Pretty soon that mindworm was firmly implanted in my head, and it worked for a while until the day I was 7 hours into a shift that started at 6am after finishing at 10 the night before. She was talking about how our pre-prepared dauphinoise potatoes were no longer the premium product she had become accustomed to, and what I meant to say in response was “oh, really?”, but what my brain decided to do was say “oh fuck off…” in an exasperated voice.

I pointed out to him he’s been working away all the time I’d been in charge and could only make it in on a Saturday, all our female staff were like Lee loved the job but worked elsewhere so worked one week night shift. The blokes weren’t quite full time but were students so were happy to pick up all the weekend shifts.
