We are taught our entire loves to blame ourselves and our bodies. I know, but this is coming from a place of insecurity, and rational thinking has gone out the window for a bit. The upset mind just hears agreement that they look fat and it further adds to how bad they are feeling in that moment. It doesn’t mean the person making the comment is unkind, just sometimes people misunderstand each other, or they unintentionally say the wrong thing because they don’t realise how the other person is feeling. Always always just say “this doesn’t suit your style” “this is unflattering on you” “dress B is more flattering and you look amazing in it” As someone with body insecurities, sometimes I know my brain makes me think I look fat when I probably don’t. So when I ask my partner for his opinion , I do want an honest one but not a hurtful one. It’s all about the tact.

Obviously, “you look fat” is never a great response to anyone, but “it’s not flattering” or “I think you have others that look better” is welcome. I will say it seems a little like a set up for her to say “yeah it made me look a little fat didn’t it” and then get mad when he agrees. That’s just silly in my opinion.
