Wasn’t this what internet .beat time was? Or at least something very similar. Sadly, it never really caught on despite Swatch selling physical wristwatches in .beat time. One time in college I was going to meet my friends for dinner at 6:00. I saw my clock and saw it said 5:59. I had a brain fart and thought “oh good, I’ve got another 40 minutes.” Guess you’ll have to educate them about time vs money. I’ve had people ask me if I’m from New England when I’ve used the phrases quarter til/quarter past. So maybe it’s a regional thing they didn’t grow up with? I remember reading ‘quarter of’ in a Stephen King book when I was younger & thinking I hope this isn’t pertinent to the story coz I have no idea if it means before or after. Was in my early 20s & had never come across that phrase before. Yeah I hate this phrase. It makes no sense to me because if u have a quarter of an apple I have a piece of it so I feel like quarter of an hour is part of that hour. Makes no sense that it’s before the hour It takes 5 syllables to say “quarter after 10.” It takes 3 syllables to say “10:15.” Why not just say the actual time? It’s more clear, precise, and shorter to say. I don’t get why people say things like “half past five”. Just say 5:30.

I agree for like half past, but I think that “quarter after” is less ambiguous than 10:15, as the Motor Harley Davidson Clothes John Lennon Signature Shirt In addition,I will do this latter often sounds the same as 10:50 Always felt this way. Personally I like to know the exact time if I’m interested. Asking someone else the time is not really something in my world since I got my first phone back in 2006. So if they have a scheduled break at half past 1, keep them until 1:50, that’s half, right? I’m sure they knew what they were doing. Honestly, it’s a quick mind fuck if you’re not really thinking. The word “quarter” is first associated with an actual quarter, so your brain could grab onto that first. But also, just say the fucking time lol. 10 til noon, 5 past 12, a quarter after 1, etc. that’s mildly infuriating to me. You’re just taking a longer route to say the actual time. Saying a quarter after 10 leaves no room for interpretation either…but apparently some people just reversed course on common sense these days? Then again I’m one of those weirdos that prefer using the 24hr time format over 12hr time format and saying the time directly instead. I’m 26 and was never taught about roman numerals. To be fair, this has literally never been a problem in my life because I don’t live in Rome.
