But the Minecraft Styled Christmas Snowman Deer Shirt in addition I really love this appearance isn’t universal across the entire gamut of pictures that were shot on Technicolor three-strip, just like how Kodachrome doesn’t always look like Kodachrome. Or we could look at two modern-ish films that were both shot on Ektachrome, those being Three Kings and Inside Man. There’s similarities to the two, but choices that were made in the shooting and processing of the film make for films where most people would be hard pressed to say that they were done on the same stock. If you look at Oz or Blondes, you can say, “Oh, totally. That’s Technicolor.” But African Queen and Caine Mutiny… it’s harder to say that, because they don’t look like Oz or Blondes. Not to mention the fact that Arri did not/does not have the restrictive prices and conditions that their main competition in English-speaking (and other) markets, namely Panavision, imposed on users.

I wonder what the filmmakers of these past eras would say if we could go back in time and tell them that by 2023 we’ll be getting better image quality from cameras that fit in the palm of one hand. Stabilization notwithstanding. As cell phone cameras have demonstrated all too clearly. All the pixels in the world; still can’t make out shit in the final image. I would flatter a DSLR and maybe a GoPro that its optics are probably a little better than very early film cameras, though, at least for applications that don’t suffer from the lenses being just so darn small. This is out of my wheelhouse, though; I could be hilariously wrong.
