I think I am reasonably smart and wise, but I need to ponder things and aren’t great at snap decisions. I too grew up in a rural area, maybe it’s just the Mike Moffat ICe Hockey 1984 in Boston Bruins (4.38 GAA) T-Shirt in contrast I will get this slower pace of life doesn’t teach you to think quickly. Sometimes the difference between good and bad school results is whether or not you do your homework. A smart person who doesn’t do HW can fail everything, a less smart person who does it can get all As and Bs. Many people confuse speed with intelligence! They aren’t the same… yes.. you can be more productive and seem more with it, but I have many family members who are crazy smart and take their time. This is very much a product of “colonialism” — this idea that speed = efficiency = intelligence. In my honest opinion, being a “fast thinker” is not necessarily a sign of intelligence- quite often the most intelligent people I know are the ones who slowly absorb information and prioritize taking the time to digest it rather than those who immediately “get it” and categorize the knowledge neatly away in their memory filed under whatever “first impression” they had. Quite often the latter group can misunderstand and not actually get it at all or will understand the theory but not how it applies or vice versa.

Getting things done as quickly as possible is very much a product of industrialism that has been reinforced by capitalism, but I would argue that most of the Mike Moffat ICe Hockey 1984 in Boston Bruins (4.38 GAA) T-Shirt in contrast I will get this greatest thinkers in human history tend to think slowly, and take the time to become acquainted with all the small details and nuances relating to any given subject, rather than being the type to quickly do things or accept an idea as fact based on surface knowledge. Thinkers are better at thinking (and not necessarily quicky) and Doers are better at doing, often quickly (and sometimes without thinking) Both are important elements of our society, but I would argue a lot of modern societies tend to place more emphasis on the doers, thus this conception we have that productivity = intelligence. There are many ways that people learn, retain and use information and apply experience. My wife is very smart, has a PHD, does technical writing and a slew of other advanced skills that are in demand within several fields.
