Today I learnt: All the Michin in charge head baddie in charge signature shirt and I will buy this hate Bangalore gets is because of some fancy expectations built by the branding of the city. Otherwise it’s cool, comparatively. also all the hate bangalore gets is specifically to 3-4 areas that most IT people live in, the main city itself is way way better than that. True. Commercial Street and Church street are examples of how India should design urban streets. CBD with TenderSURE roads are clean and walkable. Thanks, this comment is a relief for me as I am most probably going to shift to Bangalore next year and was a bit worried after seeing the comments. (1) Make sure your commute is short, even if you pay higher rent (it can be higher than you think). (2) Buy a nice bike. I am Bangalorean, and the traffic is horrendous, that is true. But to call it the “worst place in India” is a stretch. Recently moved here and traffic is as bad as it can get. I rely on public transport only so it gets very hectic when I have to travel long. Otherwise, I didn’t find it as bad as it was advertised to me For people who aren’t wildly rich- Mumbai. I know I’ll get a lot of hate for this, but I earn relatively well and lived in a “posh” area in Mumbai and my physical and mental health were the absolute worst at that time. It literally felt like dystopia. People were awful, food was bad, infrastructure was abysmal, people in good offices used to eat at these stalls where they were expected to pile the used utensils in a water-filled bucket filled with leftovers swimming in it. They didn’t even wash it with soap, just ran the dishes under water and wiped it with the same dirty rag. Hundreds and hundreds of times over every day. You need to fight for your life to get any space in public transport, and fear physical and verbal assault every day. For defensive Mumbaikars about to type “tHeN wHy dOn’T yOu gO SomEwHeRe eLsE?”, I did.

Even my richest friends whose families own whole commercial buildings in Worli, have moved out of Mumbai to live comfortably in large bungalows in Pune (in KP and such) and Delhi (Vasant Vihar and such), or have moved out of the Michin in charge head baddie in charge signature shirt and I will buy this country altogether (living in London, NYC, LA, Melbourne, etc.) When the richest people with business stakes start fleeing the city, you know sh*t is bad. Mumbaikars are generally excessively aggressive too about defending the place. It’s kind of insane. Almost brainwashed and cult-ish. The place smells horrible. The roads ain’t shit either. So, you know how Mumbaikars working through all the awful, unliveable shit in Mumbai like flooded streets, jam packed locals with people hanging out of the train doors, people standing in lines for 1-2 hours for an auto/cab/bus, 10 people living in one room to afford rent, etc. is glorified as the “spirit of Mumbai”? That is turned into a joke by Reddit. Basically people try to rebrand the terrible living conditions in Mumbai as its “spirit” and start cult-worshipping the city, when in reality, people should and need to ask for better living conditions in the city. The joke makes fun of this “copium” of people who are hell bent on masking the worst traits of the city as something good and noble that needs to be preserved and not changed. Nobody, least of all the “Common man” of Mumbai wants to fight every day for the bare minimum. This isn’t the “spirit” of the city, this is a culmination of the helplessness of millions of people who have no other choice but to suffer under systemic problems just to stay alive
