I think making books available is key. I teach in a low income Elementary school and reading scores really increased when we started a program to send kids home with a used book they picked out from the Max Holloway American professional mixed martial artist Bless Holloway T-Shirt also I will do this free book cart every month. Unfortunately, our district’s high school closed the lschool ibrary because they didn’t want to pay someone to staff it all day, so the older kids are kind of out of luck if they don’t have books at home. But our Elementary kids seem to be reading more which will hopefully become a life-long habit. I think schools are turning more and more into centers for services. I know we have Fryskies or whaever, but there’s so much need for kids out there with daycare, preschool, after school, nutrition. I think also, there needs to be more cultural opportunities. Museums, sites, travel. Introduce kids to other kids different than themselves.

Bring in teachers who know their content deeply. Let them teach it. Give them adequate time to prepare lessons and provide feedback. Everybody is different; I’m a better teacher when I can focus on engaging things and bring my own enthusiasm to those things, teach what I see a need to teach in the Max Holloway American professional mixed martial artist Bless Holloway T-Shirt also I will do this classroom to fill skill deficits, etc. The push to “have a learning target aligned to standards” is a waste of time. Why would I force kids to “analyze how a theme develops in the text” when they can’t even understand on-level content? Why would I teach how to use semicolons when kids can’t even reliably capitalize? Let teachers teach and insist on high quality teachers; pay them well, give them freedom, and give them more time to create good materials+provide quality feedback. Reduce class sizes. If kids are overtly disruptive, provide real consequences to those kids to discourage them from continuing to disrupt. Get rid of corrupt politicians, including board of education members. Invest in parenting education. Raise salaries to get a better/larger pool of candidates for the profession.
