Gently, can I suggest that going back next week might be a little early? I’ve made other comments today about things I recommend (MH First Aider as well as MH lived experience) trying to get in place, and readiness for return. Think of it this way – when you go on holiday for a fortnight (if you can remember doing that!), you don’t start feeling relaxed till week 2. And that’s without experiencing such levels of stress. I don’t know if you are a reader, or if this resonates, but something in your post struck me as familiar. I’m insanely over self-critical, worried about judgement… my therapist has connected me to exercises around Compassion Focused Therapy and it really hits home as to why I’m so resistant to supportive messages from others, and feel I need to take everything on myself. If any of that sounds familiar, check out CFT links on Instagram (super accessible when the Matthew Tkachuk The Rat King American professional ice hockey winger T-Shirt and I love this brain can’t hold attention) and also this book if you want/can handle more reading:

Thank you so much for your reply – I’m actually waiting for the Matthew Tkachuk The Rat King American professional ice hockey winger T-Shirt and I love this GP to ring me back today to discuss being signed off further so I’ll see what they recommend, though when I initially called last week was that they asked me what I wanted, and I’m really bad at asking for or knowing what I need. For example, I’d love to take 2-3 more weeks off but I have a hard time knowing if that’s because I really need that time or because you know, who wouldn’t want a few weeks off right? I’m also worried that, despite the support from my boss, that it’ll be seen as taking the piss. I know a lot of that is my anxiety talking and the guilt over other people having to take over my work tasks for a longer time but then it also seems self-defeating if I’m trying to ‘rush’ back when I’m not ready. It’s just hard to know what ‘ready’ feels like.
