But man it got hard after that One of my favorite sandwiches at my local deli was a turkey/cranberry sauce/bacon sandwich. Smoky/sweet/salty so good. I heard about it fun elvis but the recipe was also on the label of a stone porter as a recommend accompiniment to the beer Bacon and jelly sandwiches are a true delight. I like peanut butter but wouldn’t add it to this two hit salty smokey sweet treat. Also, the Elvis edition of Reeses was the best damn thing ever. It only came out that one time. It had banana cream as an additional layer of filling in the cups. I just looked up when it was that it came out… it was in 2007! And I still remember it as one of the best sweets of all time. I wish they’d run it again. I’m learning that banana cream used to be in many popular treats. Apparently Twinkies were originally filed with banana cream, but they switched to palm oil cream so they’d have longer shelf life, and not spoil in transit…. Also good to point out that the bananas we eat don’t taste like the common bananas from back then. There was a huge banana blight.

Yeah. The Gros Michel got mostly wiped out, at least on a commercial basis. We eat Cavendish now, but they are susceptible to some other blight. He also gets credit for ‘creating’ the Made in 1965 58 years of being awesome flower shirt in contrast I will get this peanut butter / banana sandwich combo. No clue whether that’s accurate or not, but seems like a combo he’s known for enjoying. Also a solid combo, imo. He had a very particular way of making them. You smash the banana with a fork into a paste and spread it over the bread. Then you put peanut butter on the other bread slice. Then you add a few slices of fried bacon, butter the outsides of the bread, and fry the sandwich like a grilled cheese. It’s absolutely fantastic and I’m going to eat one right now. Mary Jenkins, who was Presley’s favorite cook at Graceland for 14 years and worked for him until the day he passed, appeared on Letterman and showed how she used to make his favorite meal — a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich.
