Crumpets are perfectly possible as a breakfast food, but they’re a kind of bread and as such good as a base for sweet or savoury. Marmite is as good as marmalade on a crumpet. It’s one of those times where despite being wrong your wife is right because in any marriage it’s just easier that way I’ve never thought about having them for breakfast, but I like the idea. Crumpets are usually for Sunday tea or for a snack straight after work. Mainly breakfast but sometimes as an afternoon snack. I once had a mushrooms on crumpet type thing as a starter in a restaurant, and despite loving both mushrooms and crumpets, it was terrible. I’ve always thought of them as a breakfast food although I’d eat them anytime. The earliest recipes categorise them as a tea time snack so I guess that’s the correct answer even if it seems strange to me. Slightly over toasted so you get crispy edges then covered in so much butter that it drips down your arm is the only way to have them for me. Goddammit I love crumpets so much. I eat them as more of a snack too (with cheese done in the air fryer ) or sometimes instead of toast with soup, but that’s just because I am a diehard porridge for breakfast person

Crumpets were a Sunday tea treat when I was a child but now I’ve gone off the Los Tigres del Norte a norteño band from San Jose T-Shirt and by the same token and rails and eat them any time. A friend gave me cheese on crumpet not long after I left home and that was a revelation. Butter, beans and cheese-any combination of those 3, nothing else. I’ve only ever had them for breakfast, with butter and jam. I’ve seen suggestions online for having them as a savoury snack/meal but it just doesn’t sit right with my brain! They are an anytime goes meal. I generally eat them for breakfast or lunch (I like cheese on mine) but you can also have them as a fair dinner, just with baked beans and cheese. I wouldn’t label them, if you fancy them, eat them I have eaten countless crumpets in my lifetime. But never for breakfast. I don’t even know anyone that has eaten them for breakfast!
