As I got halfway down the Let’s watch scary movies shirt Furthermore, I will do this staircase I saw the train driver/employee of the metro with uniform and cap on, coming down the other staircase. I headed towards the train and waited beside the closed carriage doors assuming the driver would open them and I’d shortly be on my way home. The driver then heads up the staircase I’d just come down and comes back down onto the platform about two minutes later. He walks by me, without a word, jumps into the train, leaving the carriages all closed and proceeds to drive away. Very strange behaviour, I reckoned, but I paid it no heed and started to leave the station, thinking I’d have to enquire somewhere about getting a night bus. I left via the opposite entrance I used to come in. Or at least I tried to. I got as far as the gate to the street and saw it was chained shut. Not really too bothered but thinking this evening was taking a strange turn, I headed towards the platform again and then up the staircase I’d used to come in. I got as far as the gate to the street I’d used to come in and saw that it too was resolutely chained shut.

I then didn’t know what to think and kind of wandered around the Let’s watch scary movies shirt Furthermore, I will do this station thinking this couldn’t really be happening. That train driver didn’t just lock me in the station, walk by me without a word and then drive off. Did he? He couldn’t have? I wandered around for another while searching for signs of life or another exit. There weren’t any. In Amsterdam at the time there were a huge amount of heroin addicts and crack addicts hanging around the city centre, saying things like ‘Psst… Brown or white?’ to passers-by and looking like the very definition of the word, ‘Wraith’. I’d heard stories of homeless drug addicts living in the underground train lines in various cities around the world and now that station was locked shut I thought there was some chance I was about to be an unwitting guest in a zombie apocalypse junkie nightmare. When the incredulity of what had just happened wore off and the anxiety set in, I freaked. I made my way back to the gate I’d come in through and I roared. I rattled and kicked the gates and threw anything not screwed down against plexi glass windows that wouldn’t shatter. After about twenty minutes of doing this I attracted the attention of a few passers-by on the street. (Pre mobile phone & internet days) Somebody went to a phone box and alerted the train company/management of the station and they agreed to send someone out to let me out. This took about another hour and 15 minutes. Overall, I wound up being locked in there for nearly 2 1/2 hours. The worst part was thinking I wouldn’t be able to raise the alarm and that I was stuck there for the night at the mercy of whatever horror lived down in the tunnels. One passer by stayed with me until I was released.
