The idea that anyone needs a character to look like them in order to enjoy a story or something is nothing short of narcissism and it’s weird that anyone actually feels that way to me. After character creation, I usually forget what my character looks like. Throw on some armor and you’re just another tin can, lol I can imagine being a walking friendly tree that can summon a bush or a rock golem, a wizard with teleportation and guns, an orc wielding what looks to be a 200lb axe in hell, but god damn – a different gender? Talk about a bridge too far/s EXACTLY. I am the opposite, I love to feel like I am in the game, it makes me feel more connected to the world that I am trying to immerse myself in, so I dont get your way of thinking This is it for me. If it’s RPG then I generally play as any myriad of characters… different genders, different races. Some of them will be male, some will be female. I don’t want my character to be like a projection of me. I would rather roleplay like me bc I have no desire to be anyone but myself or a better version of myself. There’s really no reason why I would.

Well just because you’re playing a guy doesn’t mean you’re role playing yourself, I kinda doubt you do the Lake arthur high school alumni class of 2029 shirt and by the same token and same things in real life that you do in video games Exactly. I wouldn’t want to play skyrim but as a completely ordinary guy with absolutely no outstanding traits. I’ll rp as myself but only if it’s a playthroigh where I intentionally go through it incredibly weak. I’ll throw my glasses on, find a good flannel and some jeans or khakis and hit enemies 20 times before they go down while they can take me down in 1 hit
