I was raised this way as well and now I had to unlearn it all with dietician. My dad didn’t usually do this but one time when I was like 4 or 5 and I didn’t know how salt worked, he told me not to put too much on my pasta but I didn’t understand why because I’d never experienced “too salty” before so I put waaaaayyy too much and he was like “well now you have to it” and he made me stay at the Kittle over the middle American football tight end for the San Francisco 49ers T-Shirt and I love this table and try to eat it 🙁 And then when he walked away I started spreading it all over the floor and my chair so I could pretend that I finished it but was just really messy about it and he never did that again Well, my grandparents knew what it was like to starve as kids. So when they raised me they were just as strict with that, and since I lived in a multi-generational home, my grandparents were also there to make sure I did not waste food. It does not make sense anymore, and now I understand that this behavior was just not rational and rooted in the trauma of my grandparents. I will not have kids, but if I were to raise them, I would make sure they eat enough, but would not force feed them as my parents and grandparents did (not literally mind you, but you get the idea)
