This is literally me attempting to regurgitate a few articles I read on Wikipedia yesterday, so I’m likely getting the Kevon Looney American professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors T-Shirt also I will do this smaller details wrong, but I believe the bigger picture idea of teaching children to not always let their instant gratification desires take control is correct. Sometimes parents want their kids to fill up on healthy meals, when if left to their own decisions they’ll skip the proper dinner and eat less healthy options My nephews are told to serve themselves and they need to finish whatever portion they put. Teaches them they need to not waste food But also given the choice, I think a lot of kids will just eat chips or candy so I think it’s acceptable that parents force them to eat healthy by making veggies and fruits normal

This isn’t true for all families. This was how I grew up and I refused to put my children through the Kevon Looney American professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors T-Shirt also I will do this same shit. It causes a very unhealthy relationship with food. My kids get kid sized portions, they’re encouraged to eat for nutritional benefit, not to finish the entire plate. Forcing a child to sit for hours, restraining them, force feeding them, hitting them, belittling them, all of that is abusive behavior. If this was ever done to you I’m so sorry. My husband was raised this way. He’d be made to eat until he threw up or he’d be punished. I’m still helping him undo that damage after 10 years of living together. Recognizing a healthy portion size and being able to stop eating when he’s just full are still very hard for him. I don’t know why parents do this. Anything that isn’t finished can always be saved for later! I have never seen anything like what you describe, which feels a little hyperbolic. I have however seen a lot of children refusing to eat their vegetables.
